Gauge re-builders removing date and part number stamps.

I recently had my dash rebuilt.
It was returned with all date and part number stamps painted over.
Well I am assuming it's paint any way. Possibly just blasted off the old numbers.
They did put their plastic "Rebuilt by" on the back of the cluster.

Is this standard procedure? The cluster was sent in by the outfit that also did the paint. I didn't make any requests as to leaving them part numbers or not. I wouldn't have made any request as I expected it to be left as is, didn't know this important history would be blasted off or painted over.

I could re-stamp it but that would require pulling the dash again.
Is the date stamp judged? What are other shops doing as far resurfacing the back of the gauge cluster?

I did have to pull the cluster part of the way out to change out the amp gauge as it was defective from the get go.
The cluster re-builder is standing by his repair and will repair the amp gauge. Although it hasn't been returned yet.

This post may be a cautionary tail so others can request the stamps be left as is or?
    Thanks
    Rick
