I purchased a 63 ammeter (battery gauge). The needle is not connected. How do I calibrate it? Thanks.

Re: Calibrating a 63 ammeter
Raymond,
Do you mean the pointer is missing, the shaft broken or just fell off?
Set it to the center straight up and down and press it on the shaft! Move it and see if it goes back to "O" without oscillating. If it oscillates just throw it away and buy a new one. There is no such thing as calibrating an ammeter. Either it works or it don't!

Re: Calibrating a 63 ammeter
As Joe said, center the needle, and I give it a gentle tap with something like the back of a screwdriver to seat it on the shaft. All done without power to it. If it reads backwards then switch the wires and it will read correctly.
I rewound 2 and had to remove the needles and put them back on when done.
