I decided to pump out as much fluid as I could and refresh with new. Castrol sells a differential fluid with posi additive. Is there supposed to be a gasket? or just the posi tag?

Re: 64 differential fill plug gasket or not?
1964 was the last year to use a straight thread plug and requires a gasket. I believe the original gasket was made of leather. 1965 and later use a tapered thread plug and require no gasket.
By the way, the above assumes that your carrier has the original cover and not a later 65-79 style cover installed as a SERVICE replacement. If it has the later cover, it will require the later tapered thread plug.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

John, be sure to use thread sealant also for a nice dry plug area.

Re: 64 differential fill plug gasket or not?
Those plugs are machine threads, thus the need for the gasket. By 65 they went to the 3/4 npt as Joe mentioned. Some guys use an "o" ring to seal between the plug and housing. The gasket will work though.- Top
