    Question for Joe Lucia

Hi Joe, Could you possibly do Don Baker and myself a favor and check on two numbers?

    Vacuum advances. 1116148 and 1116201.
When were this two discontinued. Thanks very much, John

From the archives. The 201 superceeded the 148 in 2/62. The 201 was discontinued 1/65.

One more thing: it's possible that the 1116201 was used in PRODUCTION after 1/65, but it was not available in SERVICE after that time.

The ...201 was used on '67 L-71 and at least one year LT-1, but off the top of my head I don't remember the year(s). All these engines have OE ported vacuum advance. Its replacement in service parts is the ...163, "B1" in the aftermarket, which may require as much as 19" HG to pull to the limit, and that won't even pass the Two-Inch Rule for a base engine. That's why I call the "B1" a boat anchor.

There are only THREE currently available VACs that will pass the Two-Inch Rule for any OE engine with single point or TI distributors and most modified engines... the 8" B28, 12" B26, and 15" B22.

You have a 1/3 chance of getting it right by pure guess, but if you measure manifold vacuum (and understand how to do it, which a lot of guys don't) you have a virtually 100 percent chance of getting it right.

              My July 70 LT-1 came with a 201 as did my March 67 L-71.
