    Is your starter gear and flywheel in proper mesh? A tight mesh could be occurring when things heat up. There is plenty on line information on setting up tooth to tooth gap. Another issue could be the battery cable termination not tight enough on the copper stud on the solenoid. As copper expands when heated.

    The starter solenoid spring was a target part in the past for too much tension force when heat increased resistance and made pull in less effective for the contact points in the solenoid cap. Check these points for pitting.
