When you pull on the hood release handle of my '69, should it "pop" back to it's original position? Does the dropping and closing of the hood pull the handle and cable back into it's original position?
I've owned the car since '75, and have always pushed the handle/cable back into position (I always had fear that I'd damage something if I didn't push it back).
I'd like the system to work as they would expect in an operations check.

    Rich,
Of all the 'vettes I've owned over the years, I have always pushed the hood release handle back in after opening the hood. I never owned one that returned to the "closed" position by itself. As an aside, the hood release is not checked during operations check in judging.

The handle should return to its position by itself. There is a spring on the release mechanism that rotates the mechanism back to its position that draws the wire/handle back in. you should not have to manually push it in.

        Hi Joe,

I have been distracted with other things lately and just had a moment to log in so sorry for the slow response. I did not weld the wire to the handle, but to the steel sleeve that is pinned to the handle. we used a simple welder to perform the task. I did not try to remove the end of the old wire, but instead just drilled it out to create space to weld the new wire in it's place. A rather easy process.

        thanks,
        Rich

          Jeff,

putting that 90 bend in the wire, along with the adding the hole to receive the wire was a nice touch! that should provide a level of insurance that my approach didn't do. I wish I had thought of that.

          Thanks,
          Rich

            Jeff,
Let me clarify my earlier comment...I have never owned one that "completely" returns to the closed position. I've always pushed on them to be sure they were seated...just became habit, I guess.

              Leif,
Got it!. I can see how that could be the case.
