    '72 LS-5 A.I.R. System questions

I'm in the process of getting an AIR system for my car and have a few questions. The system I have came from a later '72 and I'm putting it on my October '71 built car. All the parts appear to be original.

    Hoses:

The drivers side hose is are stamped "3932476 GM RC KV" and is in reasonable shape, that number checks out in the latest JM.

The passenger side hose I suspect is a replacement but there is a note in the JM that states that other numbers and symbols have been seen, its stamped with "D01062" then "GM 3943197 RH GATES". possible or a service part?

    Hose clamps:

The clamps that came with the system are dated 2/71 (3) and 4/71 (1). Would these dates be acceptable for an October '71 build car?

    Pump:

The pump I have is dated april '72, late. It has the black fan. For an October car it should be white, correct? (I've sourced a correctly dated pum, just want to get a correct fan)

    Diverter valve:

It's a 29190 valve. The broadcast code should be JH and be a sticker, not a stamp. Correct?

    Thanks to all!!

    Re: '72 LS-5 A.I.R. System questions

I picked up a early '72 smog pump with hoses and a 29190 diverter valve with sticker. It had a GM-3917238-AD pulley. Best I figured it was used on a '72 big block car other than a Corvette. The hoses looked to be original, but it had a 3943197 RH GATES on the Left side and I think it is service replacement.
So, in addition to the 3932476 that you have, you need the 3947740 for the RH to be correct.
The clamps are dated by quarters of the year, so the 2/71 would be ok, but the 4/71 may be a little late for your car; 3/71s would probably be the best.
Black square edged fans were probably only used in the second half of the 1972 production year, so a white fan would be correct for your Oct, '71.
I think that stickers were used for 1970 and newer and stamps were for earlier applications (maybe early '70s?)
My late '72 survivor LS5 has all original parts the same as the JM states.

One other question. The pic of an LS5 AIR pump, on page 139 of the JM, shows a rounded corner on the elbow. Is that correct or is the one on my pump correct? the pic of my pump is attached.

If you can, post a photo of the Gates and the other info.
I have seen Gates on other original hoses on a 72, so it would not surprise me if they were original. I’m not sure I would change them.

Tom, I have had Maybe 3-4 '70, 2 '71 and 4 '72 pumps and all the '72s, including my original car had the square elbow. The other years had the round elbow. So, I would use the square one for your car.
Also, the 3947740 hose is near impossible to find so you may want to use the 3943197 that you have instead of a reproduction 740 hose.
Patrick, Here's the 2 hoses and the pulley that came with the Feb, 72 pump. Hoses were crusty and attached with original clamps.
Maybe Joe Lucia will respond with the application for this pulley; GM-3917238-AD. It is a small diameter, 4 3/8", compared to the Corvette pullies.
          Hose stamps read; GM 3943197 RH D 01212 Y161 and 3951355 GM-RR- ?EA. IND.
The 3943197 hose is smooth; no raised lines like other known original hoses.

Haven't had a chance to get pics of the hoses but the stampings are exactly like the ones Leonard posted, except fr what I think might be a date code. The number starting with D. The stampings on my hoses are not as clear, not sure how pics will come out. One thing for sure, the clamps made a defined impression in the hoses. If they are not factory original, they've not been disturbed since they were replaced.

Getting back to the elbow. Is the one pictured in post #3 correct for an early '72 or is the one below correct?
