1969 Bottom of body factory paint

Did the factory paint or coat (undercoat) any portion of the 1969 Corvette bodies? Were dealers possibly undercoating bodies?

Thanks in advance for all responses.

The only "undercoating" that was factory-applied was at the rear of the wheel wells. The wheel wells were otherwise painted black.

Many chassis components were component painted (i.e. painted prior to installation). The bottoms of the mufflers were painted black.

I'm sure that some dealers applied undercoat to Corvettes, especially those delivered in areas of the country with harsh winters/salted roads.

Just to clarify, the remainder of the underbody was bare fiberglass except the wheel wells which were painted black with undercoat applied at the rear of all four wheel wells?

Thanks again Joe, appreciate all the help over the years.

      Regards,
      Rich

Yes. Also, the degree of coverage of the undercoating at the rear of the wheel wells varied from car-to-car. It was rather carelessly applied. I think the purpose of the undercoating was to more-or-less prevent tire propelled stones from chipping/cracking the fiberglass and/or reducing the noise from such impacts.
