The sequence for mounting the inside heater box to the firewall is as follows as best as I can determine. From the cabin side it is the heater box, the heater box seal (mine is a really dense, dark gray foam) , the adapter plate, the firewall, a caulk like seal and finally the heater box outer cover with the fresh air door. I have a couple of questions. First, is the sequence above, correct? Second, if there are still any gaps around the perimeter of the installed heater box, what "filler" is to be used? And third, what is the caulk like seal between the heater box outer cover and the adapter plate and where can I get it? Thanks for your help!

Ok..this is a reply to my own post. I had done a search on my question but apparently not a good search. I just ran across some pics of Rich Mozzetta regarding my exact question (almost). The only thing left of my question is the "seal" material under the fresh air intake. What is it and where can I get some. And again, as so many others have said, "Thanks to Rich Mozzetta for his willingness to share his experience and wonderful pics with the rest of us." They are an immense help!- Top

Harwyn, Glad the photos help.
In all of those I've installed, (IIRC), I do not add sealer around the outer fresh air intake duct. There is quite a gap that would have to be filled. The foam seal does seal it well.
I don't have my AIM handy but if its a black non-hardening sealer you could use 3M_strip caulk.(black dum-dum). But it may sag if it gets too warm.

Yes it appears that shiney black goo around the original foam seal is a sealer of some kind. But as you can see it can make a mess. If getting judged, and the JG calls for it, I'd use something sparingly to give the effect more than the water intrusion protection.- Top
