Does anyone have a picture of an original drivers side power window switch for a 57. The reproduction one looks different than the old one that was in my car. Both the chrome surround and the buttons are different.

Re: 1957 Power Window Switch
The repro's are not even close to looking the same as the originals. Use the old one if at all possible. That's what I did. I don't have a photo right now, but I can go out to the garage tomorrow take one. Very difficult to get the pin out of the original one without breaking the housing. Pass side comes apart very easily.

Re: 1957 Power Window Switch
Thanks. A picture would be great. I have gotten the original one apart without breaking it. The repo's have a smooth button, but my original has like a serrated button. Just want to make sure what i have is correct before sending the bezel out for chrome. Appreaciate the picture.

Re: 1957 Power Window Switch
Here are 3 shots John. Hope this helps.
Just out of curiosity, how did you get your switch apart? How did you get the pin out?
You are much better off repairing your original switch than getting a repop.

Re: 1957 Power Window Switch
Dan,
Thanks for the pictures. They helped. Mine are just like that, so they are original.
On the other question, the pins that hold the buttons in push out. I took a smaller diameter rod and pushed the one side all the way into the other side, pushing that pin out so I could grab it with pliers. I then took my rod, reversed to the other side, and pushed the one pin back into its housing, and continued pushing it out the other side so I could grab it and pull it. I already cleaned it up, and have it back together.
Thanks

Re: 1957 Power Window Switch
I don't think on the LH dual switch that the serrations/dimples on the edge of the up/down are correct. Notice that the RH side does not have these. I have noticed these serrations I believe on an Oldsmobile or Cadillac? maybe- Top

Re: 1957 Power Window Switch
I noticed that too Jimmy. I have owned the car since 1971, but the car was hit hard in the left rear in the late sixty's and the LH door was replaced, along with a bunch of other stuff - so anything is possible. I'm all but certain the RH side is original.

Re: 1957 Power Window Switch
LH 2 button sw #4644665 was interchangeable with 54-56 Pontiac, all. Not positive but I believe serrated buttons are correct -- later years production simplified. Good question, need to check a little more.- Top

Re: 1957 Power Window Switch
My 57 was original I believe. You could tell by door panel indentations that the switch had never been off. So we have 2 57's with the 2 button serrated on drivers side and smooth on the passenger side. I believe that is correct -- but not 100% positive.- Top
