1972 Corvette LT1 Engine Stamp Number

I have a 1972 Corvette LT1 numbers matching car.
The engine was stamped with V0408CKY but the Y was stamped over a T.
The reason for this was that Corvette LT1 cars used Z28 engines in that period of time that were redressed to LT1 engines.
I am interested in finding out how many of these cars were stamped like this and are there other people out there with the same over stamping?
Al Grenning has reviewed this and has certified the engine as being original to the car.
How would judges react to this?
Would this also affect the rarity of the car?
This has been discussed on this site before, but I am still trying to get more information and answers.

My thoughts...

There is no way to know how many of these existed on Day 1, and less of a chance now. You might find another one, and you might not. If anyone might be able to guide you, it's Al, so I would give Al a call back.
Judges would judge it appropriately. It's not the first or last one they've seen like this.
It does not affect the rarity of the car in a positive or negative manner. They still only made a certain number of LT-1s, and yours still has the original engine.

I have had people tell me that they would not buy this car because of the engine over stamp!
By the way, nice 1972 Corvette that you have.

Jim, if someone doesn't buy the car because of the overstamp, they don't deserve a nice car. I love stamps like that.

The judges scratching their heads is not fair to the owner and the judges should be educated enough to not let something like this to effect or cast a doubt on the originality of the Corvette!

I agree with Tim and Bill... these cars must be learned from. Engine were stamped by people who made mistakes often.

I attended an Al Grenning seminar at the Adirondack chapter a couple of years ago where the subject was St. Louis production processes and paper work.

The main take away was that building these cars was a highly manual process and riddled with human error.

Grind outs, double stamps, over stamps etc happened all the time.

The 1972 Camaro production was stopped at Norwood Ohio in the beginning of April due to a strike. (they scrapped thousands of cars because they wouldn't meet 73 bumper laws)
Thus there could have been a number of Z28 engines which were repurposed for the Corvette, If the car were low enough mileage it may even show the change out of the exhaust shield on the drivers side. The Z28 used a rear drivers wire shield which was 2 pieces... the small bolt holding the leg onto the block were both attached when the engine was painted. The bolt would probably still remain painted even when changing to the corvette plug wire shield.
