    1957 Power Top

Does anyone have a picture of how the clips that hold the power top cylinder lines in the convertible top compartment are installed? They make long clips and short clips, were they both used? The AIM is unclear to me.

John, These may help. Appears all clips in the tank area compartment are the long type. Also added some photos of the trunk area. These from a friends '57 vin 444x....sold it years ago.

just curious, but pretty much every C-1 power top set up I've seen looks like it has been under water for about 50 years, any explanation for that?

Stephen, I think like many other 50 to 60 year old parts, time takes its toll. Power Top parts probably worse for a few reasons. They got disconnected because of faults and were hard to diagnose, as well as being subjected to the corrosive effects of the DOT 3 brake fluid which was used for the hydraulic operation. This makes the internals of the valves and pistons even worse than their poor exterior appearance.

Rich, On the safety switch in the trunk, I know the bracket gets painted trunk color, but what about the actual switch and the 2 screws that hold it on the bracket. Were they installed before trunk paint? Picture above looks like screws are unpainted.

John, I have no definitive answer, but I would think some electrical items would be installed after paint. Here is the decklid switch, same appearance. But notice the harness switch connector. I recall that the Power Top harness was installed during body assembly and before paint. I have seen paint on the wiring and connectors. I think some of these details are outlined in the Judging Guides.

Rich.....thanks for the story. the system is one of the most complex, Rube Goldberg set ups ever put in a car. Fascinating when it works however.
