!969 L-46 350 350HP distributor Question

Hey Fellas, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the difference, besides the collar tag. between a 1969 L-46 350 HP distributor and a 1969 base model 300 HP distributor. The. collar on mine is 1112021 H 1. I believe this is for a 350 HP engine but from 1971. Also this distributor has The telltale hole opposite the tach drive. According to the 69 judging manual that would mean it is a service replacement. I would like to know how to Identify a correct Distributor as the collar can be easily switched can it not?

Other than the hole and collar that you mention, I'm not aware of how to identify an original housing. Nor is it mentioned in the JM.

Aren't there characters embossed on housing casting?

Thanks Mark for the reply, I have found some further info in the web. I have to read thru it and do some learning I guess. I dont think there are casting marks on the housing but some internal and external differences to go by.

The GM #1112021 is a SERVICE-only distributor applicable to 1969-70 Corvettes with L-46. It was not used in PRODUCTION. So, the distributor you have started life as a SERVICE distributor. The original 1969 L-46 breaker point distributor was GM #1111493. By the way, there was no 350 hp engine for 1971.

Externally, the two above-referenced distributors were identical except for the hole in the center of the cross shaft section of the housing and, of course, the identification band. Obviously, the identification band can be easily transferred from one housing to any other. The hole can also be eliminated.

Internally, the 1111493 and 11112021 are identical.

The 1969 300 hp distributor was GM #1111490 (later SERVICE GM #1112020) and the 1969 L-46 distributor GM #1111493 (later SERVICE GM #1112021) were externally identical except for the two above-referenced differences. However, the 1111490/1112020 and 1111493/1112021 are INTERNALLY different. Specifically, the mainshaft with autocam, centrifugal advance weights, and vacuum control were different.
