Have you checked EBay? I got NOS for my 66 and 67 on EBay.

      Re: ignition switch

      Hello Don;
Not sure about buying on ebait

Is '66 the same as '67 inasmuch as one needs to slightly push in on the ignition switch key to allow the key to be turned counterclockwise
      towards the accessory position ?

      Thanks for your answers.

I purchased my 67 switch from Ebay with no issues.........NOS new in box.

Besides David S. I would also contact Pete Lindahl (NCRS member from New Mexico).

I have bought lots of stuff from eBay and also sold stuff there. Yes, you need to be careful because people often misrepresent a part, either on purpose or unknowingly. But I don't know of another source (other than the Driveline) to find NOS or good used parts quickly.

There is a difference in 66 and 67 switches. The 66 part number is 1116673 and the 67 part number is 1116686. Not sure of any real difference. My 66 had a 67 switch in it when I bought it and I believe they both function the same.

              Ray,

Beware of NOS versions of the 1116686 switch that you find on eBay. Virtually all of the NOS examples on ebay are of a design that differs from the original production switch and the altered design will not function properly. The NOS examples on ebay typically sell for $250 or more and, while they are indeed NOS, they will not pass judging if you have a judge who knows how the original switch functioned in terms of having to push in on the key to turn the switch to the ACC position.

The GM #1116686 was manufactured for a lot of years, from late 1966 through early 1989. My guess would be that early SERVICE examples, perhaps those found in pull string-type boxes, would have original functionality. Later SERVICE examples might have experienced slight changes as you describe.

The 1116686 was discontinued from SERVICE in later 1989 and replaced by GM #10132855. The latter was discontinued without supersession in the late 1990's. I know nothing about it.

they operate similarly. however a good judge can tell the difference. it has to be a 686 to work correctly. try Sokolofski or Pete Lindahl

                      Dan,

Do you know for certain that a '66 673 switch won't work as a functionally correct substitute for a '67 686 switch?

Gary - if you are going for fight judging it would most likely pass. if you are attempting a PV - it would not pass. gone through many 67 PV's. however, Nick would be the one to answer since he's most likely doing the PV judging. I've tried even using a Chevelle switch - has the same strong push in but has no light attachment. so that would fail PV as well. I tried to bond the attachment and it wasn't much good . there is a difference between the 2 and the repros are good for 66 but not 67

In terms of the PV, exactly why would the 673 not pass as a substitute for the 868?

the 673 when turning to accessory - you can turn hard enough to move to accessory almost without pushing in. the 686 you have to push in very hard to turn

I wonder if the way you describe the 673 working is an indication of wear/use. I believe that the push and turn feature should be identical on '66 and '67.
