    1963-64 key core tumbler code

How does a 4 digit key/tumbler code of example ( 8109 ) equate to the 4 colors or depths of the tumblers in the 6 tumbler positions? Tumblers are coded by color, Copper, Nickel, Black & Yellow with their corresponding #'s- 1, 2, 3, & 4. Are the tumblers, springs & retainer available to the do-it- yourselfer? Jack J.

    Jack,
There is a cross reference form the key code to the tumbler numbers. Pete Lindahl or Gary Beaupre will be able to help you out. For obvious reasons this information was never available to the general public.
    Kind regards,

A four digit code actually translates into a 6 digit code for cutting the keys

      An example is

Before I have a new key made with respect to my 4 digit code, (dealer option?), are the 4 different tumblers available (source) so I can swap them out one for one? Obviously, since there's 6 tumblers, I would need a multiple number of a certain color(length). Just wondering. Jack J.

If you're having a new key made why would you have to mess with the lock internals if the key code is known ?

For what its worth when I bought my 63 spare tire tub lock 4 years ago I had it re-keyed to match the ignition/door key at an old time locksmith shop -- it took him about 10 minutes and he charged me $13...

Frank I appreciate your reply but please read my Jan. 23 posts and perhaps you might understand my reasoning? Jack J.
