Re: 1965 Jan/65 Build Date Correct Oil Dip Stick
Page 155 (Mech. Section of TIM&JG) shows no PN. My A.I.M. is out in the barn and it's too cold (-12 F) to walk out there now. Would the dipstick be installed in Flint (and therefor not in the A.I.M.)?https://MichiganNCRS.org

Oct '64 PBk lists 3862730 as the base 327 dipstick; maybe Google will yield a picture; measurement A from the washer to the Full mark =s 20 5/32"; measurement B to the Add mark =s
20 59/64".- Top

Re: 1965 Jan/65 Build Date Correct Oil Dip Stick
Roy,
In August of 2011 I stated a thread entitled "Early" 1965 327 dipstick (see link below).
Early 1965 dipsticks (GM # 3862730) were embossed, later 3862730 dipsticks were stamped.
The 1965 upper dipstick tube is GM # 3860319. GM # 3860319 was replaced by GM # 3876784 (66 Corvette 327 and 66 Chevrolet 283,327) in Oct. 1965 for service parts (parts sold over the counter). I have no idea when the change was made on the assembly line. I have several used and one NOS 3876784 upper dipstick tubes in my collection. I have never seem a 3860319 tube, at least that I know of. I would think that the length of the 3860319 and the 3876784 upper tubes would be the same since dipstick # 3862730 was used with both tubes and the oil pans were the same as well.
Point of Interest: The 1965 Chevrolet Pass. assembly manual lists the V8 dipstick as GM # 3876786. The revision record shows that GM # 3860099 was replaced by GM # 3876786 on Jan. 7, 1965 but who knows when the actual change was made on the assembly line.....maybe February or March of 1965????? My 1965 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1964) lists GM # 3860099 for the 65 PASS. (8 cyl.) (exc. 409) and is described as A = 20 1/8" and B = 20 49/64. According to Chevrolet Parts History (service parts, not assembly line parts) GM # 3860099 was replaced by GM #3876786 in Aug. 1965. The 3860099 dipstick was EMBOSSED and the 3876786 dipstick was STAMPED.

Re: 1965 Jan/65 Build Date Correct Oil Dip Stick
Loren,
My 1965 Chevrolet Parts Catalogs (Oct. 1964 and Jan. 1965) do NOT list a dipstick (aka, oil gauge stick) for the 65 Corvette base engine BUT do list a dipstick for the 65 CORVETTE w/Sp. H/Per., F.I. as GM # 3864974.
Finally..........my 1965 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (May 1965) lists GM# 3862730 as the dipstick for the 65 CORVETTE (327)(exc. Sp/ H/Per, F.I.).

Re: 1965 Jan/65 Build Date Correct Oil Dip Stick
Morning...Do not have a part # but maybe someone can say if this is a correct oil stick for Roy to know what to look for, as you can see this
stick has lines marking the oil levels not dot, also the end is pointed, and the lettering is recessed, no M after the engine oil lettering.

Re: 1965 Jan/65 Build Date Correct Oil Dip Stick
Richard,
Your dipstick appears to be a 1964 Corvette dipstick, GM # 3846810. I have had at least 2 versions in years past. My NOS dipstick had a rubber "cup" for the stop. I also once had one with a stop shaped like a "bell". I think that the one with the rubber stop was a service replacement but it's beers years since I studied the 63-67 Corvette dipsticks.
