    Re: NCRS National Road Tours

Prior to 2001 I don't remember the paper work involved in going on the RD Tour. Plus there were different tour leaders every year or 2.

Was looking for the record for number of cars actually registered and what year that was. So, is this year the largest / most number of cars registered or are we still chasing that record?

        Re: NCRS National Road Tours

For some of the earlier Road Tours no paperwork was kept. They were much less formal events. The first Road Tour was not even called that and was just a means to get to the convention. It was lead by John Amgwert in a 1975 or 1976 Corvette. Some of you might be surprised to think of John in that era Corvette. That was in 1980 or there abouts.

The next time was about three years later and this was the first one to be actually called a Road Tour. It too was organized by John Amgwert. The first Road Tour I was on was 1984 to Copper Mountain and I remember meeting Mac and Pauline there. I am pretty sure they had been on some of the earlier Tours as well. Sam Foltz was on that tour with a rubber bumper C3. His travel in that car was legendary even back then.

I know Mack and Pauline Cross have been on more than I have. I believe I missed the National Convention in Anaheim and thus missed that road tour. I had a real job back then and life gets in the way of fun sometimes.

Back when I had the Orange Suburban and Chuck & Freeddie Berge lead the tours all our focus was on getting from point A to B and having fun along the way. Keeping records of who was in attendance was not important. I remember a leader named "U-turn Vern" on one of the events. I'll tell you how he got that nickname over beers sometime, but your imagination can figure out the rough outline.

The point of the Road Tours is still to have fun while getting from point A to B. Let's keep it that way.

I don't think there will ever be a definitive answer to that question since some of the records are lost to history. Keeping those kinds of records simply wasn't a priority.

I think the answer will always have an asterisk = "* according to known records"

I guess we will never find out what the largest # of cars has been in the history of the NCRS National Road Tours.

I think the record is around 121 cars. Someone got a little sidetracked on the thread.

Great info Gary. Looks like we stopped the decline. Lets beat San Antonio's number.
