    Decode vin and build sheet

Hello. I am a new member and am currently trying to restore my grandfathers 68 Corvette Roadster. I have the vin number and am looking to get the original build sheet for he car and I'm also looking to get the small, stamped, vehicle options/interior plate that came with the car. Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction? I'm trying to get all this together for my grandfather as a surprise to him.

    Welcome to the NCRS!

The build data sheet is/was glued to the top of the fuel tank.
The trim tag, which tells you the color of paint and color of the interior is/was located at the junction of the windshield frame and the body in the drivers (right hand) door opening. This tag will also tell you the date of the body build. If this tag is missing....you're SOL.

Tony, I found a build sheet in between the tack and speedometer.

Wecome to the NCRS, Tony. For 1968, there is no plate that lists options. The only item that shows those is the build sheet, and all cars have not retained them. If your grandfather is the original owner, there is a good chance it will be found on the gas tank.

            Good luck.

If I can not find the build sheet or would like to get a replacement for the vehicle how would I got about that being that the vehicle is from 1968?

                Welcome to NCRS Tech Forum!

Information (Shipping Document) containing similar information to a Build Sheet can be purchased from GM Archives for 1977 and later Corvette.

Build Sheet and window sticker reproductions can be purchased from National Corvette Museum for those Corvettes assembled in Bowling Green, Kentucky (1981 and up).

Unfortunately, neither option will help you with your St Louis assembled 1968.

You might check out NCRS' "Historic Document Service" (link below) for some information that might be available.
