Finish on Convertible Quarter Trim Panel

After a recent carpet install I decided to repaint the quarter trim and radio panels. I used the correct dye spray paint from CA, and the color looks spot on to the original (dark blue). The finish however, does not have the same "sheen" as the original, and is not quite as "smooth" to the touch. Was there a finishing coat of some sort, or was this just a patina after 50+ years? I sprayed at a relatively low ambient temperature (high 50's) would that make a difference? I used the prescribed primer and cleaned the parts as recommended...

My 63 has the dark blue interior, when I painted it with the CA paint or dye I left it as is for the radio panels. If you want more shine to the finish try painting over the CA dye with a clear satin spray. I did this on a few trim pieces and it worked well.

I don't know about dye spray paint, but when I use Rustoleum semi-gloss black in a rattle can I can get from semi-flat to more than semi-gloss just by controlling how much paint I lay down at a time. It can be lightly "dusted", given a semi-flat look and slightly rougher feel, or it can be much smoother and shinier. by spraying heavy, but having to be careful not to get runs. Did you practice using different spraying techniques?
