66 427/425 Fuel Pump Outlet to Y Block Question

I've been wrestling with the problem of replacing my (incorrect) fuel pump on my 427/425 car for a couple of weeks now. The problem involves adapting the inverted flare female outlet on the pump to the vertical fuel output line to the Y block before the bowl feeds. I was unable to find ANYWHERE, and believe me I searched all the parts stores including NAPA and also the internet for a fitting adapter which will adapt the inverted flare female to a 90 degree inverted flare male which would accept the supply pipe.. So, after sending one correct pump back to Paragon (who had no fitting adapters, I thought Long Island Corvette had the answer. It cam in today and their adapter uses a straight pipe fitting with a rubber washer which fits inside the inverted flare, but the female end of the fitting is for 1/4" straight pipe, not 1/4" NPT pipe thread which will accept my inverted flare female elbow. My elbow will only thread into this adapter 1/2 turn, which I would really be nervous about driving around with. DOES ANYONE HAVE A PHOTO OR CAN DESCRIBE WHAT KIND OF OUTPUT FITTING AN ORIGINAL 427/425 FUEL PUMP LOOKS LIKE? Could be that my elbow is incorrect.

Long Island's repo pump and fitting, my elbow with 1/4" NPT pipe thread The fitting is straight pipe, not NPT and has a washer inside to seal up against the inverted flare! My elbow screws in about 1/2 turn, 180 degrees max and maybe two threads. Not enough of course.

I'm down down to repairing and reinstalling my (incorrect small block pump with allen head studs to prevent the pivot pin from walking out which is what happened and caused me to attempt to replace it with the CORRECT reproduction pump. I should add that it ran great with the 327 pump.

    Any ideas? Similar experiences?

    Tom,

The 1966 AIM (UPC L72, Sheet C1) lists GM # 137423 as the part number for the elbow. I couldn't find any thing about the 137423 elbow in my 1966 or 1967 Chevrolet parts catalogs but when I googled "137423 GM" I found 3 sites on the web (see below). Maybe this will help. I assume Weatherhead was probably the original vendor but that is just an educated guess.

Re: 66 427/425 Fuel Pump Outlet to Y Block Question

        Tom,

It seems to me that I have seen GM use the part number of a manufacture for common parts like fittings, etc. BTW, the 1965 Corvette 396 (L78) requires two 137423 elbows in the fuel line (UPC L78, Sheet C10 in the 1965 AIM.

GM # 137423 in Group 8.963 listed for $0.45 in my Oct. 1966 Chevrolet Price Schedule.

Thanks very much, but for the 66 427 that fitting 137423 has to be adapted to the 3/8 inverted flare input to a 1/4 npt female for it to be useable. All aftermarket 427 pumps are now only useable out of the box for 67 427s and now use an inverted flare input rather that the 1/4" ntp..

Joe, you must have something to adapt the inverted flare 3/8" output on the pump to the 1/4" NPT thread elbow. What i have pictured here WILL NOT work because the threads in the adapter are not NPT and will not thread. I bought this setup from LI Corvette and I am returning it.

Oh, I thought you had a pump with an NPT fitting. So, what you have is the 1967-69 style pump.

I think that if you use an adapter, you're going to find that the pre-formed fuel line is not going to fit properly. I believe I have seen brass 90 degree elbows in hardware stores that are male 3/8 tube on one end and female 3/8 tube on the other.

I purchased part #22-31H fuel pump with adapter for 65 396 and 66 427 from Long Island Corvette. The adapter will permit your stock 1/4" NPT elbow to fit. Works fine.
