    lacquer paint

    I need a pint of Millie Miglia red lacquer paint, code 76 for a 75 corvette. Does anyone know of a source? Could the "new" lacquer paint be used to blend or spot paint older lacquer? Thanks;

    Re: lacquer paint

    TCP Global still sells modern lacquer-based paint. Just Google the name. There are also a few places in the NE that still sell. The archives should have names.

    Problem comes when blending in to an existing color. Many variables including the paints tints, so color matching is likely required. Only way to even get close is to send them a panel to match to.

    Tower Paint is another source, with emphasis on touch-ups and blending. They may also be a good place to contact.

    For a solid color like you have, a modern paint system or acrylic enamel (with or without hardener) is something to try and use your local paint supply house to do the custom tinting. Years ago lacquer was used to paint over both enamel and old lacquer, and enamel was also used to paint over lacquer and old enamel. Clear was used/mixed in with the color for final coat(s) to help blend out and match. And you can get close this way, but don't try to buff it out or you will see the edge of the two paints.

    FWIW. I am no professional painter, but have been around automotive paint all my life.......especially in the 1950-60-70-80-90 time period. I do not even attempt to keep up now.

      Thanks Larry;
      I may have to try something like acrylic enamel which I can find locally.

        Howard:

        I would give Tom Ames a call. He is the NCRS Paint Tech Guru. Phone # in Restorer. See what he says, and take it to the bank.
