Did the ZR-1s come with the black USA plate from the factory?

    I would think "dealer installed".

Virtually all new C4s I saw back in the day had their Corvette bumper filler in front and a paper tag in back.

Most C4 'promotional' images I've seen have the typical front filler plate (as Mark mentioned)... and in back, you'd often see a version of the 'Heartbeat of America' plate. In this PR image, the zoomed in back plate appears plain black.

Folks from VERY limited data, here are some comments.
We know that the later C4 LT1's had a black plastic rear license plate holder. In the center of this holder was the inscription "USA (Chevrolet Logo) 1. I have seen this holder on numerous late model C4's. However, the data that I have does not lend to identifying if they were also on ZR1's. The appropriate state license plate would slip into this holder and then the plate and holder would be attached by screws. I will not get into how many screws on the back and how many on the back if a front plate is utilized. The opinions on this is a story for later discussion.
I am attaching some photos of the black USA plates as well as the ZR1 license plates. On the red ZR1 your can see that it is blank as far as the USA inscription. As far as the ZR1 rear license plate holder is concerned at the Florida Regional at Lakeland a 1995 White ZR1 with about 2600 miles on the clock was Flight Judged. At first the rear area of the license plate looked different on this ZR1 until it was determined that the owner had placed his license plate over the black license plate holder as shown in the above post. It now appears that there were two different license plate holders utilized on the at least the later C4's. As I stated above, I do not have enough data to form a definite opinion.
One of the problems in Flight Judging these license plate holders is that during dealer prep I was told that they were tossed in favor of the license plate holder of the dealer.
If anyone has additional information on this subject, please pass it on.
          Thanks

My 1992 LT1 has the "USA 1" rear license plate bracket. The 1991-96 L98/LT1/LT4 rear license plate bracket was different than the 1990-95 ZR1 bracket. The 91-96 bracket was GM #10146492. The ZR1 bracket was GM #16509671. Both are GM-discontinued.

Here is a photo of the back side of the rear license plate holder that I have seen on LT1's.
Also a photo of the rear area behind the license plate holder. The tape and plastic were put on by me to hold the adjusting bolt from slipping out of its holder. It becomes a pain to reinstall the tire sometimes with the adjusting bolt slipping out. Just my opinion.

Paul- Just for clarity purposes, what is the basic 'width' of the black USA plate you are referencing?
From the images posted, the ZR-1 plate holder appears much wider (to accommodate their wider body/bumper).

My original '93 ZR1 has the same blank license plate holder that Pat shows on the red car and the yellow ZR1 promotional photo above. This holder fits into the wider opening on ZR1s. My '92 LT1 had the debossed USA 1 holder shown here.
