Re: 1963 exhaust center hanger
I can't answer your question regarding the dimension of the bolts but the automatic transmission has a 2" exhaust system on 250 and 300 HP engines. A 250 HP engine with a 4 speed will also have a 2" exhaust but the 300, 340, and 360 all use a 2 1/2" exhaust system with a 4 speed transmission so the hanger is different for the different applications but the location of the bolts should be the same. I have an older reproduction hanger on my 4 speed car and had no fitment issues.- Top

Re: 1963 exhaust center hanger
Mark,
Back in the very late 1980's I bought a reproduction 63 Corvette exhaust pipe hanger from a Corvette vendor for about $100. What I matched it up to where it mounts on my 63 frame it was too short. The location where the 2 U-bolts on the bracket did not line up with the 2 holes in my 63 frame. I got my money back the next time that I went to Corvette Carlisle. No comments by the vendor.
I just asked a question to someone selling an original 63 bracket on Ebay and the answer was 14 7/8" end to end.

Re: 1963 exhaust center hanger
Does the AIM show different hangers for an automatic transmission car? One would suspect the answer may be in there.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: 1963 exhaust center hanger
Mark------It’s probably the same guy I asked and he confirmed that measurement 6 3/8 center to center for the mounting bolts, the ones on the rubber to frame, was correct for my automatic, but at $ 479.00 for my Driver I can’t justify spending that.
I ordered one again from Ecklers and just cut it in the middle of the bracket and welded in 3/4” and it lines up perfect.
BUT what I’m trying to find out is there a different one for automatic cars. I would think that there would me an expert/Judge on here that would have the real answer.
For your 250 HP application, the support/clamp assembly was the same for manual or automatic transmission. It was GM #3828187 and was discontinued without supersession in January, 1973.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
