To do it right, wouldn't you have to remove the door panel and other parts to reach inside and bend those tabs back in place?

      Re: 1968 Door Knob Bezel.

I recently reinstalled my bezels on my 68. The small bent tabs (4) should have a strong/ medium interference with the inner diameter of fiberglass hole for door button. I searched my 1/2 drive sockets for an appropriate size that matches the crowed ridge on bezel. Then with several slight hammer blows, and socket centered on bezel, the tabs will jump behind the fiberglass hole edge and have good retention . The crowned ridge will not distort. If tabs have been deformed ( as appears in photo)you can carefully add interference with a very thin straight edge screw driver and needle nose pliers. No need to work from inside door. Then four tabs will effectively spring back and latch. Tedious but effective.

Forgot to add that socket will provide hollow recess to accommodate protruding push button, so you are tapping on socket on socket drive side...

Thanks Patrick and Ed. I thought I might have to go from inside the door. I’ll read your thread 10 times Ed then I’ll attempt it. LOL I zoomed in on my picture Ed and noticed the tabs are curled such as a trim ring. I’ll give it a shot.

                Nice technique. I'm impressed.
The trim ring analogy is a good one.

Jeff, glad to hear your bezel is reinstalled. Just went through the painful process of reinstalling 68 door glass and inner and outer unique weatherstrip. Plus convertible weatherstrip to glass methods and tooling to get aft edge in proper relationship. Learned some tricks on the process if anyone is interested

That would be great Ed. I find it interesting that the coupe is totally different from the convertible.
