    Intake manifold 327

Can I remove and replace (and torque) intake manifold bolts one at a time without creating a leak? I want to put in the 'correct' head markings.

    Thanks, Pete

Hi Peter - I think most do this without an issue. I had my motor rebuilt for my 65 and installed the intake manifold while it is on a stand and now need to remove 2 intake bolts to attach a chain to hoist it into the car. I have been told that is the standard way to do this. I used ARP thread sealant and torqued to 30 lbs. Torque specs are 25-35 lbs per the shop manual I believe.

Yes. However, you have to be careful of the bolts that go through to the lifter valley, For these, you have to make sure the threads in the head are scrupulously clean. New or scrupulously clean used bolts need to be installed with sealer.

Your service manual should have a torque sequence chart for the intake manifold. Replace the bolts in that order and torque each one as you go. Then recheck in same sequence after all replaced. And as Joe says, use thread sealant on the bolts that go through to the oil gallery. I like the arp sealant for this, but any good non hardening oil resistant bolt sealant should work.

Thanks for the help. I usually use Permatex #2 but I got a tube of ARP today and I'll use that.
