Sending unit short in 1967 tank

Attached is a picture of the sending unit from my '67. I kept blowing a fuse for my gauges and traced it to the gas tank sending unit. As you can see, the insulation eroded after over 50 years in the tank causing the wire to rub against the fuel pick-up tube. I consider myself lucky I only blew a few fuses. Over the weekend, I checked the sending units in my other cars just to be sure the same issue wasn't lurking.

Yes, a good catch. I had a similar thing happen to my '63 Z06 tanker, pulled the sending unit and had it rebuilt and restored, but also was able to empty the tank of 56 years of debris.....and fix a leak.
