Time for another of my dumb questions - center gauge cluster ground

    Time for another of my dumb questions - center gauge cluster ground

    I read that the '68 wiper ground (black wire attached to switch attaching screw) goes right to the center cluster assembly, and that, by some mysterious means, serves as the ground. That seems rather 'casual', LOL. Manual(s), AIM, etc, I don't find particularly clear. The schematic makes it appear that the ground wire would go to a common ground point.

    What am I missing?

          So I guess not such a dumb question, after all. 50 of you have looked at this, over 45ish hours, and it appears nobody knows the correct answer.

                      The center gauge cluster gets it ground from the radio housing.
