    65 Body Build Date Anomaly?

Every number on my car is within a couple of weeks of each other. Most everything is Feb 65. The date on the body ID Plate is G29 which I believe translates to Feb 29. It was not a leap year. Birthday book says it should have been built on the 4th of March. I guess it is an AO Smith Body since the code is A-1948.

Was this just a mistake on the date?

I think they meant it to be 1st body of March. tag made at shift close last day before installation.

      Bob:

      1. Birthday books are not exact and can be off a few days...........although they are most accurate at the end of the month and beginning of a new month.

      2. February 29 is a factory mistake

      3. It took about a week or so for an AOS built body to be loaded on a train and sent to St Louis......and then for St Louis to schedule the body into the car build sequence. So there is a recognized 7-10 day spread between the AOS body build date and the St Louis car build date.

thans. So it sounds like AO Smith goofed on the date and perhaps the birthday book is actually correct? I have ordered the NCRS information. Is there a list of body numbers with dates?

Not officially. Someone may have as a private hobbyist, but no official records exist to my knowledge. NCRS will give you the exact car build date, but will not address the leap year issue.

GM published the St Louis cars produced each month, so the end of month number for each month is exact. That is what all the Birthday Books use, and then they make assumptions from there. NCRS date will be exact, since they have actual GM daily totals along with other information.
