Re: Rounding up or down of a 0.5 deduct

    Edward,

To be clear, Gary C. said "The "dot" system should be used to mention a noteworthy item that's not worth less than a 1 point deduction." Which I took to mean he uses a dot when a deduction is worth at least 1 point. Or am I getting confused by a double negative?

      .
So, specifically, a calculated deduction of 2.6 should be rounded up to 3, and a calculated deduction of 2.5 should be rounded down to 2.0. It that what to Dave Brigham is teaching?

Gary, Yes exactly. there maybe s few that say .5 is worth one point. my personal take is we restore our to as close as too NCRS standards. so why take something that some clearly has shown a effort to bring to there former glory.

Re: Rounding up or down of a 0.5 deduct

In the rest of the world and even taught in math class when we were kids the half is the breaking point for rounding up. It’s always been that way and why would it change now. If one is truly worried about all the upward rounding then just make more things correct on one’s Corvette. It is plainly spelled out the issues that will be deducted for. All the nit picking over a rounded up point here or there will never change one’s total flight position. The team leaders are more than accommodating to see that nobody gets cut off by one point.

In the first place why would one use an incorrect exhaust system to start with if point count is the major concern? Besides the configuration has to be assessed the plated finish on the system is a starting point for evaluation. There are plenty of issues such as muffler seams and markings, welded configuration, formed bends, welded connections vs drawn forms, etc. Evaluation should rarely end with the aluminizing.

My humble opinion is that if you cannot determine if the item is stainless or carbon steel by looking at it, maybe you need to be doing something else instead of judging.

I don't know about you Dick, but when some metal is hiding under blackout, I have a hard time determining the metallurgy, even though I am a Ph.D. scientist........I don't have mass spectrometer eyes, I'm afraid.

At the SoCal Chapter judging meet last weekend, an attendee reviewed that statement, and handed out a printed sheet showing the deductions of various point levels as percentages. Very handy.

This type of pissing around a single point is what gives our organization a bad name. Get a life and move on.
