    C8 Corvette Reveal

Ending months (really years) of speculation, GM final acknowledged tonight the existence of the C8 Corvette -- and that it will be unveiled this summer. So Zora's dream of a mid-engine Vette is finally being realized--- about 50 years later!

Interestingly, the reveal date will be July 18, which happens to coincide with our National Convention. I seriously doubt it's going to occur in Greenville, but maybe the Convention organizers could arrange for a large screen live feed. Should be interesting!

      NYC? Really?

From marketing perspective, you'd think they would choose a venue with more Corvette splash. NCRS National or NCM's 25th anniversary come to mind.

        Re: C8 Corvette Reveal

The venue was Mary Barra's speech at the Steven Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation charity ball, where she announced that the final front-engine Corvette would be auctioned off to benefit that charity. It made sense for her to announce what would be replacing it. I agree that there were other, more Corvette-friendly venues that GM might have chosen . . . and as I will be attending the NCM 25th Anniversary Homecoming I was hoping for that. But, the reality is that many (most?) of the Corvette-friendly venues would represent a case of preaching to the choir - the folks who attend such events (including me) will likely be customers for the new C8 regardless. That's not who GM feels they need to target with the new car, if they want to grow their market. I am hopeful that with the July 18th reveal date, we will see a few real cars at the museum in August.

It has been extremely amusing to follow all of the posts on the C8 forums concerning the upcoming car - everyone, and I mean everyone, seemed to "know a guy, who lived across the street from a guy, who sat next to a guy on the bus, who had a cousin, who heard at the grocery store from a guy who knows . . . " Then would follow when and where the C8 would be revealed, what features it absolutely would (or wouldn't) have, how much it would cost, etc., etc., etc. My only response to all of that was this: "Those who know, don't talk - and those who talk, don't know." Personally, I have NO particular insight and I don't know anyone high-enough placed at GM to ask - and I wouldn't expect them to tell me if I did. I have had my own opinions, of course, but that's all they are. Those who said that the entry level new car would positively retail at over $160,000 made me laugh the hardest. Others claimed to "know" that the car would appear at the NYIAS, or at the Indianapolis 500, or elsewhere.

Still can't wait to see the actual, un-camouflaged car . . . but like the rest of you, I'll have to.

Regardless of why they chose NYC you would think they would do it in a city that is a CAR city like LA where EVERYONE drives unlike NYC where most walk, use the subway or a cab. People that are truly interested in BUYING one want to see it in person.

Maybe it's a tip of the hat to Zora. Isn't that where he first encountered the car?

Let's also remember that this announcement was NOT the reveal. It was an announcement OF the reveal. Where that will actually take place, and where the car will actually be first publicly displayed are the far more important questions - and I'm sure GM is on top of the issue. So we really don't know any more factual information than we did before . . . . yet. Stay tuned, Corvette fans.

Exciting times for Corvette. Nice to see the Legend live on. There is a little tip of the hat to Zora, as his likeness is on the camo car that Tade and Mary Barra arrived in. Count me in on the second year Z06. Should be a beast. Since the unveiling is on 7/18/19, we are sure to see them at the GM tent in Carlisle. Should be fun.

With the stunt Mary pulled shutting down the plants in Ohio after making deals with the unions I am finding it hard to be excited over the release of the car. My wife has gone as far as saying no more new Chevy's in our house.
On another note a reliable auto carrier was parked outside my building in midtown Manhatten yesterday and I asked him if he had the mid engine vette inside he said no but a load of chevy's headed to Javit's center.

The 1953 was first shown in NYC at the Waldorf Astoria. The C7 was also shown in NYC 60 years to the day (i was there) so why not the C8 ?
