These photos are of the trim rings and hub caps from my '74 in their "as delivered" packaging.
I am the second owner of the car and and these are still in the original unopened packaging today. It is an interesting story. Like many of us who ordered new Corvettes in '73 and '74, the original owner checked the box for the YJ8 aluminum wheel option. When the car was delivered he was disappointed that that car was delivered with the rally wheels and not the aluminum wheels. Since he thought the car looked better with the bare steel wheels, he decided not to install the trim rings and hub caps. When the aluminum wheel finally became available in 1976, he bought a set OTC and mounted the Goodyear Steelgards to them.
I am curious if anyone remembers these or has seen any unopened sets.

Robert------
GM #3923625, as shown, was the part number for the set of 4 trim rings. This part number was never available in SERVICE as it was a PRODUCTION-only part number. The individual trim rings which were available in SERVICE were GM #3923626.

Can you remove a trim ring from the package and show the finish shine on the trim ring looks like a dull finish
Danny,
I can't remove the trim ring without cutting the shrink wrap packaging and I would rather not do that. I think the dull finish you see is a result of dust and aging of the plastic. If I look through a small hole in the plastic, I can see that they are shiny but not a polished shiny.
Also of note, I have the original steel wheels that show no marks where trim rings would have been mounted.

"Technically" when judged at Bloomington Gold their standard is how they left the factory, whereas NCRS is post dealer prep. So, the box and rings would be how they would be shipped to the dealer and the standard for BG. I've only seen them presented once in the box, and then I'm quite sure they were OTC replacement rings as they were individual boxes.
In practice the only difference in presentation between the two judging organizations tends to be the window sticker on the car, and BG ignores all of the other theoretical un-prepped pieces of the puzzle.

Patrick,
Thanks for the info on BG judging. I plan to keep these unopened for a variety of reasons. I don't know what their value may be but I feel they should stay unopened with the car as a piece of history.

I have seen one set of shrink wrapped trim rings presented for judging at BG, but the wheel covers for the rally wheels were installed on the car.

If you recall my first (?) year of 70-72 Exterior judging, the red LS-6 car at Champaign with the one piece hand-laid front clip....
It was that car which had them in the box.

Terry, maybe you or one of the other members can tell me. It didn’t cars with PO2’s come delivered in the back of the car with a wax substance type paper that laid in between them? I don’t know if you remember, but I remember judging a 5000 mile 1969 silver 435 convertible with the
PO2’s were displayed in the rear of the car as such.
Ron------
The PO2 wheel covers when supplied with the car as an option were supposed to have been in a single 4 unit set of GM #3923629. The individual covers available in SERVICE were GM #3923630.

If they were in individual boxes I highly doubt that they were original to the car. I would more suspect that they were added by an owner who wanted to impress without knowing how the original trim rings were packaged (i.e he assumed that they were packaged the same way they were supplied in SERVICE).
The center caps were also supplied as a set of 4 under GM #3925800. Individual caps were GM #3925801.

The set of trim rings I remember were all in one shrink wrapped container with cardboard around the outside of the rings with slots for each trim ring. The cardboard was inside the shrink wrap. It did have a part number on it, but I don't recall that number. I can't remember the year of the car, nor anything about the car. Now that I think more about it it may not have been Bloomington Gold but some other meet. A lot of people were taking pictures of the package because it is so unusual to see.

If they were packaged as a set, then they had to be original (although not necessarily original to that car). The sets were never available in SERVICE. While you might not recall what the part number on the set was, I can tell you for virtually certain it was as I mentioned above.
Re: Trim Rings and Hub Caps in as delivered packaging
Robert,
While I'm more of a C2 owner that's a neat piece of history to keep with the car. I would NOT open the box either and keep them just the way they are packaged.
