    1956 steering knuckle support

I am just cleaning suspension components from my 56 and was checking the cast numbers on the right hand knuckle support and is has 3687652 casting numbers. judging manual says they should be 3733449 and 50. Any ideas what this is from?

GM #3687651 and 3687652 are the left and right steering knuckle supports applicable to 1949-52 Chevrolet passenger cars.

I show the forging numbers for 1953-56 Corvettes to be GM #3706021 and 3706022. The 3733449 and 3733450 came along for 1957 and replaced the 3706021 and 3706022 for 1953-56 SERVICE in July, 1956. I suppose it's possible that the the 3733449 and 3733450 were used in PRODUCTION at some point during the 1956 model year.

Thanks Joe, went to shop and checked the other side support and it matches with the other one ending in 351. the left and right steering arms have the casting 3703020 and 3703019 Do those match the support or are they from the 56. Would a complete front end out of a 49-52 car fit the frame or is just the suspension parts that interchange.

The GM #3703019 and 3703020 are the correct steering arms for a 1956 Corvette. I do not really know how much of the 49-52 passenger car suspension will work for a Corvette. I can tell you that most of the part numbers for the various pieces of the front suspension were different but that does not mean that they would not work to one degree or another.

The entire 49-54 Chevy passenger car suspension (drum to drum) will bolt up directly to the Corvette chassis. There are many differences, most very subtle, but it will work.

The 53-54 pass car supports have a higher kingpin knuckle. There is a photo in a thread from a few years ago that shows that comparison. It will fit, but the front end will be at a different height with those.

So after checking the other side I thought it was funny that both sides have the same casting and the front end appeared like it had not been apart before but sometimes hard to tell. I emailed the owner of car #11 and he checked his knuckle supports today and they also have the casting numbers the same as mine. I am trying to check on a few other early cars that i know of to see what other ones might be the same. If anyone else out there with serial numbers 1-600 could maybe check there supports. Would be interesting to see how many more we find with these casting. 3687652 and 368651.
