Re: 65 accelerator ground strap to intake manifold
On my 66 its over the bracket, but the AIM does appear to show it under the bracket. So, maybe mine is incorrect. However, if it was under, wouldn't it raise the bracket by the thickness of the terminal and then the anti rotation tab on the bracket might not engage the slot in the intake manifold? My strap is original kinda frayed copper and the bracket is original (but repainted). I have had the car for 40 years, but I have had it apart and the manifold off, and may have reassembled incorrectly. Will be interested in what others say on this one.- Top

Re: 65 accelerator ground strap to intake manifold
The current edition of the 65 TIM&JG has the strap on top of the bracket. So, the AIM and the JG match. Take it to the bank.
(Sorry Leif)
Beats me,
here it is, in black and white.

Re: 65 accelerator ground strap to intake manifold
My 65 had it under the bracket and no star washer on the other end. This was a 1 one owner car that had never been apart. Here's a pic. before the restoration showing the remnant of the strap.
Sorry Don but two wrongs don't make it right.

Jim-
I can see the JG being wrong all day long, but not the AIM. Of course, just cuz the AIM says it, does not mean all were done that way.
For judging purposes, I would mount it per the AIM, and the JG.- Top

Re: 65 accelerator ground strap to intake manifold
I agree Don as I've seen other differences between the A.I.M. and how things were actually done. To those that want to put the strap on top of the bracket, good luck tightening the manifold bolt with out twisting and destroying the strap.- Top

Re: 65 accelerator ground strap to intake manifold
I think you just hit on why they changed it and moved it below the bracket. Your 65 is an L78, so later production. I bet the boys on the line made a command decision and just moved it underneath.- Top

Re: 65 accelerator ground strap to intake manifold
The 66 AIM shows under. The NCRS 66 JG calls for over. Mines currently over, but I'm going to move it under. I think the AIM is correct, the JG wrong, and that Jim is right about eliminating twisting when torquing the intake bolt. Mine is twisted so the back of the ring terminal is facing forward, not right I think.- Top

Re: 65 accelerator ground strap to intake manifold
For whatever its worth, I just now removed the original strap from my personal 66 (to move intake end under the bracket IAW the AIM) and it shows no evidence of ever having a star washer under the ring at the accelerator lever. If it ever did I would expect to see little indent digs from the star on the ring and the lever, none are present. Now I have to replace the strap since it gave up and broke off at the lever ring when i removed it. It was fragile anyways.- Top
