What exactly is the date code?

The 608 is the most common Chevy small-block pump there is. You go to a chain store today to get a pump for 68-70, and your chances are really good that they will have a rebuilt 608 in a box. I would say that is how/where that pump got on your car rather than installed at the factory. October 68 to your car in 1970 is an extraordinarily long gap for the factory.

As others have said, it's highly unlikely to be original. However, are you sure the last character is an "8" and not a "9"?

Another thing: how many miles are on the car?

Just to add what Joe says. There should be no difference in a regular production LT-1 fuel pump versus one on a ZR-1.

This is a 20k mile ZR1 with only one owner before me that drove the car.
              thanks RDR

                Ronald----

At that mileage the pump could be original if the date is actually 1969 and not 1968. These 5/8" shaft pumps are generally good for about 50,000 miles, max.

Thank for the info, My brother started the resto on this car years back and was killed in a motorcycle accident. I'm not sure if he kept the original so i quess I am on the hunt. I have found one that was dated a month after my car so dont think the judges will go for this. thans Ronnie
