    71 wheel weights positioning question

Rim is dated January 14th of 71. Tire is dated third week of January, '71. Car is a mid-February car. I know that the weights were supposed to be on the rear of the rim, but this tire/wheel has on weight on the back, two on the front. Those on the front don't interfere with the trim ring clips at all. All three weights are identical in size and style and are correct style (winged micros). Any chance of factory install, or dealer balanced with factory-style weights? BTW, the tire has been used (last picture).

    Mike,

How do you know that? Does it say that in the '71 AIM?

For the C2 era, starting in '66, the wheel weights could be placed either on the inside or on the outside of the wheel.

For the C3 era it varied. For 1968-69 the AIM instructions were that the weights were to be placed only on the rear of the rim.

For 1970-71 the AIM was silent on weight placement. Presumably, they could be placed on the front or rear of the wheel.

For 1972-74 the weights were instructed to be placed on the rear of the wheel. But, if at "final audit" an imbalance codition was found, then weights could be placed on the front and rear of the wheel as long as front weights did not interfere with wheel trim ring clips.

For 1975-82 the AIM was silent on wheel weight placement.
