1963 Early Mirror .093 difference in the mirror gasket length.
I just made a purchase from Paragon. It was several small items that I required.
The order arrived today with the part I needed to most, an early 1963 mirror gasket, zeroed out.
I called to inquire about the missing item and was informed the warehouse and the website are not linked as far as quantities go.
This wasted four days. The time from the internet order till the package arrived to find out the item wasn't in stock and had not been shipped.
I find Paragon one of the better vendors and am passing this along as a FYI type post.
This headache can be avoided if one calls instead of using the internet ordering platform.
This brings me to the mirror details;
During the call I asked about the mirror gasket fit and the sales person told me the gasket they sell only fits the reproduction mirrors. He knew this information off the top of his head.
I had already confirmed this with the reproduction mirror & gasket I purchased over a year ago. He did promise to forward this information to the group that does the internet part descriptions for possible revision.
I also checked with another Corvette vendor and they had no clue if the part they stocked fit both mirrors. I elected to not order from them.
To solve the issue, I took the mirror base gasket off of a 1964 Chevelle I own. I knew it would fit as the Chevelle used the same mirror as the early 63 Corvette and the Chevelle mirror wasn't a reproduction.
True to form it fit like I predicted.
I measured the differences in length and the interior (point to point base measurement) was .093 longer than the reproduction mirror. Both gaskets are too long for the reproduction mirror as the base is substantially shorter than the GM mirror. If I needed a reproduction gasket that fit, I would likely try a Chevelle Vendor. I have solved my issue for now.
Take Care.
