    Re: C2 Tack Drive Cable

The first thing that comes to mind is that the distributor installation is wrong creating an excessive bend in the cable. Proper indexing of the wires on the cap (shown in your '63 shop manual) and distributor installation should have the cap window approximately normal to engine centerline. How is yours oriented?

Remove the shield, snap a photo and post.

Improper wire indexing/distributor installation is a common problem.

Another possible problem with you cable, if you had your transmission removed at some point and they did not brace the engine from below to keep it in proper position the engine will tilt back. It can tilt back enough to put a bend in the cable near the distributor. If this is the case you should either straighten the old cable casing.

                John,

Remove the top shield that's over the distributrcap and snap a picture or two of the cap and wires as they are now. I'm sure someone will post as to the installed position of the distributor.

circuit (6Y-26 thru 6Y-29) but couldn’t find any reference to indexing of the wires on the cap. Also, I don’t understand what you mean by having the cap window approximately normal to the engine enter line. So I can’t tell how mine is oriented. What is the shield that I should remove and snap a picture of?9
See Fig. 52, page 6Y-28, bottom right hand corner of the page. "Normal" means the plane of the window should be approximately perpendicular to engine centerline.
