Mike, Seriously, I have a Sun 504 and I just set up the distributor for a 73 Z28 and broke the engine a few weeks back... fired on the first hit of the key... if you are headed to greenville in 2 weeks, I live 3 miles from the venue and my shop is 15 miles from the venue.

LOL I just realized the FLAT HEAD FORD adapter is on it.

I don't think TSA will let you on the flying machine with the Sun engine analyzer. Maybe we can get Kramdon to give you and the analyzer a lift.Mike E would be worth the trip. I am closer to Mike and I have an engine analyzer.

You are telling your age if you even know what the adapter is.

I have barn doors in the back but, wouldn’t want my delicate leather seats to get any dirt on them:-))

I cut my teeth on Flathead Ford V8's... My dad has pictures of me -at 3 years old- blanket in tow - taking screws out of the interior of a 1940 Ford sedan he was restoring, currently my parents have at least 3 running driving flathead Fords - including a 1940 Ford Woodie Wagon plus a flathead six Hercules in the 51 Chris Craft...
              PLUS
The engine builder I apprenticed for at 18 was also a Flathead guy at heart, although he worked with Les Richey building Cammers etc in the 60's (Cliff Brien) and in the late 80's early 90's pretty much everything we built were high end small block chevrolets for short track asphalt late models. Occasionally some SCCA 260-280 datsun straight sixes -as well as a number of 4 cylinder 2300 FORDs - .

Check your vent tubes on your Holley and make sure you have at least 1/2 inch clearance between the lid and tubes. You can tape the top of the tubes with tape and use modeling clay to measure your distance. Or you can run the car without the air cleaner assembly and see if it solves your problem. I went through the same deal as you are dealing with now last year with my LT-1. 2 months of frustration before I figured it out.

Re: 71 LS6 breaking up at 3500+ rpm

I bought my LS6 in 1994. I needed to change all 8 wires and bought them from LL.
it ran just like yours, fell on it face at 3500 to 4000.
after many nights looking at things i turned out all the lights, open up the hood, start it, ran it up to the point of the problem and it looked like a light show all over the wires, thought i was back in the late 60's at a rock show!
bought from G.M. NOS wires, two sets, changed the wires and the problem was gone.
still have the car and it runs just fine.

                    think wires......
