    Jerry,

Please provide the source for your fuel line insulation. Thanks.

        Jim,

I forgot but I think I may have gotten it online. Look up Heatshield Products. Get the type with the velcro closure. It goes on without removing the line. I think it was 1000 degree rated. You might even find it at an auto parts store , Auto Zone, Oreilly, Napa.

Anyone have any comments on my question re: the use of Heatshield product under the intake?

This may have been mentioned already but have you wired the heat riser open and plugged the hot slot holes in the intake manifold.
I was informed earlier that there aren't hot slots in the 250hp manifold...

The GM heatshield #12555320 works very well.

You mean it turns over but won't fire? Or do you mean the starter has a hard time turning the motor over.

Starter has a hard time turning the engine over. A very noticeable difference from cold start to hot start. Going to go back through the starter again this coming winter.

Make sure all electrical connections, both positive and negative, are clean and tight. A little bit of corrosion or paint between contacts will increase the current draw dramatically and can reduce the starter cranking as a result. Be sure the jumper around the engine mount -- frame to block -- is also clean and tight; or as I recently heard from one person -- present. His low mileage "original" car never had one installed at St Louis.

Status. Think I understand the problem. I swapped the coil, distributor cap, ballast resistor, AC 44 plugs to AC 45S, wrapped the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb, and reset the timing. None of the above was expensive since most of us have lots of spare parts.

Anyway, it appears to be a problem unique to WCFB's. It in the secondaries and the floats. WCFB bodies will warp over time. Best a few friends and I could tell today that is the problem. The WCFB will be on its way to St. Louis on Monday.

                          More to come.

                          Cheers,

Interesting - I've had three pairs of C1 dual quad WCFBs and have rebuilt prob a dozen or more including 3 '63 250hp variants and never encountered the "warping" problem....

I'll be curious to see if an overhaul fixes you up...Bob Kunz I assume ??

Yep, good old Bob! He did say that the warping is very rare but that WCFB are dinosaurs and anything can happen.

A sheet of plate glass and some good 320 sandpaper will correct a lot of warping. Every carburetor I have rebuilt in the last 30 or 40 years I have checked all the flat surfaces by running them over the sandpaper.
