Hi i need to drill the holes for the hose straps that hold the A/C lines to the inner fender and any other hose straps. The inner fender that I replaced had no straps and a bunch of extra holes so I can't use it as a reference. TIA

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Michael,
I'm have the same situation/question with my 1970.
I'm restoring the complete AC system, including new lines. The inner fender has a mounting hole just in front of the compressor clutch, as shown in your photo.
The 1970 AIM shows only one mounting point for the liquid and high pressure lines: a bracket that attaches about where this hole is located. Its attaching bolt also secures a separate bracket for the coolant hose that goes between the radiator and expansion tank.
My question is the location of the hole: it's so far forward that it requires an S-bend in the coolant hose as it goes to the radiator. I'm waiting for a meet so I can take a look at other cars to confirm this.
P.S.: Who did your compressor?Mark Edmondson

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Here is a picture of my old inner fender. From what i recall the hole right above the a-arm opening had the strap for the a/c lines on my car. You can see the outline of the strap. But from what i have seen on other cars and in the AIM, that strap is closer to the radiator support in the hole you are referring to. I haven't been able to find a good photo anywhere of this area of an original car.

Interesting. The hole above the A-arm opening is in a location that would work well for the AC and coolant lines. My inner fender doesn't have this hole, but with my car it's possible it was filled at some point (no signs of that, though).
I'll let you know what I learn.
Dom also did my compressor; I thought I recognized his handiwork. I hope it works as well as it looks.Mark Edmondson

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Michael and Mark, Here are pictures from my low mile survivor '72. "Rough" measurements from the radiator support and fender edge are;
coolant strap hole; 4 3/4" x 2". AC hoses bracket bolt; 9 1/4" x 1 1/2". The third picture shows the bolt which normally hides behind the small coolant line which I pushed aside for the picture. Hope these help.

Thanks Leonard. Those two holes are in similar locations as those in Michael's inner fender.
Is 1970 different? It's AIM shows the AC line bracket and coolant hose strap are fastened with the same bolt using a single hole.Mark Edmondson

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Here is p.D6 from the 1972 AIM. It shows both straps, but reversed from the actual build. See in the photos that the coolant line has a push in plug strap (small hole vs bolt hole) and the AC hoses have the bolt holding the metal strap.
My '70 AIM is missing p.D6, but the '69 AIM p.D6 shows both clips held with one bolt as you say.

"Here is p.D6 from the 1972 AIM. It shows both straps, but reversed from the actual build."
Leonard,
Are you saying that the location of the coolant and AC straps were reversed/different than AIM shows for most/all cars in 1972?
I wonder if the AC lines can actually bend with the bracket located as shown in the AIM. Maybe this is an example of assembly differing from design? We just need to see some cars to verify.Mark Edmondson

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Thank you for posting these pictures. I wonder why the hole for my a/c line strap was so low. On my replacement inner fender there is a dimple mark higher like your photos showing where to drill. I have the aim and that just confused me even more.- Top

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Mark, Look at the pictures. Look at Michael's removed inner fender. The AC lines coming through the inner fender from the dryer and condenser are rigid lines at that point and those AC rigid tubes would have to be bent up quite a bit to use the forward hole. The holes on my '72 for the 2 straps; front flexible plug strap coolant and rear steel nut/bolt AC, are different sizes. The AC strap bolt will not fit through the coolant strap hole unless drilled out and the coolant strap plug would fall out of the AC bolt hole.
So, I'm saying, if I wanted to match the AIM diagram on my car, I would have to bend both AC lines coming through the inner fender UP and drill out the front hole and patch and re-drill the rear hole. Based on that, you tell me which is correct. I did not say; "Are you saying that the location of the coolant and AC straps were reversed/different than AIM shows for most/all cars in 1972?"- Top

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Leonard, Could you post a few more pictures of how the a/c and heater hoses run overall? Interested on how the configuration is. Also a shot of the line from the compressor to the POA would be greatly appreciated. Here is picture of my old inner fender in the car in 1991 and what I am looking at now (yes 28 years since we tore the car down). Thank you

My intention is not to say what is correct. I'm just asking, and I thought you were also wondering, if some 1972 cars (like yours) or maybe even many/most cars differ from what AIM shows. That's all.
Have a nice day.Mark Edmondson

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Mark, Not trying to be abrasive, but just saying how mine is. Trying not to be corrected by the "experts" by saying all should be that way.
Michael, Here are pictures, but is is a very busy area and they may not be a lot of help. See the picture of me holding the tool; that is the angle of the lower POA tube. Could not get a picture down there as the heater hose hides it. Also, there is no touch up on any parts shown in case anyone thinks they may see that.

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Thank you so much Leonard! This is exactly what I needed. From what I can tell the A/C line connected to the bottom of the POA comes off at a 45 degree angle towards the inner fender and then comes up from under the coolant tank and to the compressor?- Top

Re: Need a pic of 72 BB with A/C pass inner fender please
Yes, the rigid line comes off the bottom of the POA, is bent up and at that 45 degree angle, changes to a rubber line about half way up the POA, bends toward the front then inline with the expansion tank and under the heater hose. It goes under the ac muffler when the heater hoses go over the muffler. If you look through the pictures again look for the hose in the foam sleeve with the small POA tube pushing into it. Also the one with my thumb which happens to be pointing to that hose at the bottom center.
