    paint

    Hi All,
Could somebody please tell me of any paint companies, stores, or Corvette specialty companies that match colors well.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Re: paint

Robert, do you know what paint is on the car now? Lacquer, urethane, water based, base coat, base coat/clear coat. Depending on what you have you'll get different answers.

        Thanks Jeff,
I live in SW Colorado, the car is a '66 silver pearl convertible. So I'm far from them, but if need be I could send them a headlight bezel for them to match

Paint wholesalers like BAPS or others match paint by code. I am restoring a early 68 and had my corvette bronze paint mixed to the original paint code. I am using PPG Deltron product. Also the brand of paint you use that company will suggest what shade of sealer should be used.

            Thanks Peter,
By the way I used to have a '68 Corvette Bronze convertible with the dark orange interior, that's a great color.

Any chance you have pictures. I think the color combination will be very retro. I am close to completing all the back painting and then I have secured a paint both for the outside of the body. I've been doing everything in a 2 car garage. I do not just it to be a clean enough environment for final color.

Sorry Peter, no pictures. I stripped the car myself, (no hit body), had it professionally painted by a Corvette restorer when I lived in Las Vegas. He also rebuilt the engine (327/300), and put in a new interior. My how the prices were so much cheaper then.
I bought the car in'88 and sold it in 2001.

The manufacturers have what is known as offset colors, the closest match with the materials today. The metallics are not correct. The final color matching is up to your painter. He can tint the paint.

The NCRS offers the service of helping you match colors correctly.
Contact John Ballard or Tom Ames
I have used the service and had cars judged against the color standard... take advantage of the service, it is worth the cost of membership alone.

FWIW the best match I have found is scanning an dealer album then cutting the metallic by 30% then do your sprayouts and send to Ballard, allow him or Ames to evaluate from there.

My 63 painter (48 years experience) went to great pains to get my Riverside Red as close as possible with modern materials.
Even matching it against a survivor car and looking under my door sills at the original color.

I wouldn't have known the subtle difference from what was on the car when I bought until he showed me a side-by-side comparison...
Experience and attention to detail go a long way..

Thank you Frank, your picture is small, but I can tell they're nice cars. Mine is a silver pearl/silver interior '66 convertible.
