I saw this buzz for the C6 and C7 but am curious as to what it was like when the C2 or C3 was announced and then when they started to be seen around town. They say collector cars had to turn heads when they were released back in the day. Did that happen a lot ?

I had a C6 ZO6 for a couple of years and it was fun to drive, reasonable to maintain and very dependable. Only needed to a change the battery because I wasn't driving it much and did not use a trickle charger often. It wasn't an easy car to commute in so I eventually sold it. It held its value very well. The C8 has supercar looks and performance and should be reliable and not too costly to maintain. It is also reasonably priced for what it offers. When the Honda NSX was released it was considered by many to be like a Ferrari with the reliability of a Honda and has proved to be very collectible. I thought I wanted an exotic car and bought a 20K mile Aston Martin DB9. It constantly had error codes and was very expensive to maintain and repair so I sold it after 2 years. I am thinking a C8 might be in my future if I get my wife on board with it. She thinks it is too flashy and may not want to ride in though. Anyone thinking of buying a C8 ?
Yes, I'm buying the Z06 when it comes out. I have a C7 Z06 now and love it. Had a C6 Z before that. Also a great car. Love my old cars, but have always had a newer Vette to travel in.

                  https://www.tesla.com/roadster:

                  0-60 1.9 sec
                  1/4 mi 8.8 sec
                  Top speed 250mph
                  Range 620 miles

No, it's not yet available (neither is C8), and yes it's $200k. But Moore's Law says it will be a threat soon. GM is holding onto the internal combustion engine like Kodak held onto film.

Yes, the kids will want more gadgets and electronic thingies, but the day GM makes a hybrid or electric Corvette is the day I will never buy one again. I hope it is after I am dead, because the very thought gets my blood pressure up.......

Not only is it quicker, but I think it looks better too. (But it's not as cool as my 1970 .)

No way I would buy that thing, the styling combined with Musk is way too much for me to stomach. But, I suspect some people will buy it, but most likely not enough to save Musk from bankruptcy. https://www.americanthinker.com/blog...lls_by_20.html

Tesla stock is certainly volatile- it's gone up 30% since the American Thinker article was published. And company revenue has doubled in the past year.

I get Musk can be a turn-off. But I can't help admire taking on the automobile industry at their own game. The Model S was introduced a decade ago and it remains the best EV on the market. And that's inspite of Tesla making all of their patents open and available for anyone to use. That's because Tesla has a purpose beyond profit- to wean the planet away from fossil fuels.

After 10 years the established competition is still struggling to catch up. BMW's CEO was recently sacked because of their failed EV efforts.

Making the C8 a hybrid like a Porsche 918, or an EV would have tripled the price or more I suspect. And since EVs are such a tiny % of the market, I can see why GM did not go crazy trying to push a technology that is not ready for prime time just yet on their halo car. Last year, EV sales accounted for about 1.4% of the new-vehicle sales of 17.3 million in the U.S. EVs may be the future, but Musk's objectionable personality, coupled with his marketing and sales tactics (no stores, dealers, or service establishments, buy online only, no test drives, etc.) are not something that would attract me. And the way I drive, I just completed a 3300 mile + Texas Road Tour to the Nationals, I can't even fathom waiting long periods of time to charge up after a few hundred miles, or searching for a charging station in the rural south. Just not there yet, maybe in time, and with great improvements in technology and infrastructure, it will be.
