Everyone, I could use some help. The 1981 and 1982 Corvettes (and probably 78 through 80 as well) had a sticker on the face of the windshield wiper switch. The sticker was mostly black but had the wiper image that light passed through so you could see the switch when the lights are on. This sticker has a tendency to develop hair line cracks in it making the switch look bad. New stickers are available from the usual vendors.
I want to peel off the old sticker and install a new one. It is easy to remove the bezel surround and it is easy to peel off the sticker. However, the knob used to move the stalk to intermittent, low, and high speed is in the way. I see that on pre-1978 models there is a small button on the switch that you can push and pull the stalk right out of the switch with ease. I don't see such a button on my wiper switch. Am I missing it or does the stalk just not come out of the switch? I really hate to tear in to my dash just to replace this small sticker. Any comments would be welcome.
