    Judging question 70 model

Years ago i put 72 grills on my car ( mistake ) now haveing trouble finding show correct ones. Are the new reproductions good enough for judging? Or do i need to pay big bucks for beat up one and rechrome? thanks For any advice Ronnie

I don't think anyone does the 1970 grille. There is a repro for a '71 and a repro for a '72. Not familiar enough with the repro's to comment. As you know a 1970 is a very unique animal with two mounting studs. I believe at one time Richard Fortier was converting the later grille to a '70, adding the studs and filling the screw holes, and replating.

Every year I go to the Florida (Lakeland) Regional, out in the Swap meet area there is a vendor that has the 1970 Grilles, both L/H & R/H. These are brand new for around $1,200 a set. They look real good! They have no holes in the front like you would see on 71 & 72 grilles.

I met the owner of www.dreamrestorations.com (from the card he gave me), Greg Higgins, last year at Carlisle who told me that he reproduces them. He said the fit was excellent. They did look like originals, but I did not make a side by side comparison. He had some that he called "blems" at great prices of 650-800 for a pair.

Looking at that website, it appears he's taken over the former Cannon's Corvettes. The owner passed away 5 to 7 years ago. The business had quite a selection of used body parts and panels.

Greg says they are very nice but do not have the GM part number so will loose points. How many points will they loose?

Using CDCIF, I'd be deducting for Completeness (or perhaps Configuration), plus the implied Date, after conferring with my judging partner.
So, 20% or 40% of the "Originality" column value.
Is the part number actually visible when judging? I haven't judged that area for a while.

You can't see the GM part number when judging, and it is VERY difficult to feel by hand. So, likely none.

The only thing I have noticed with any reproductions is that the paint shade is usually too light compared to the original color.

Check the CF forum. Every now & then a pair shows up for sale.
