Backwards mounted tire on '69 spare?

The spare tire that came with my '69 convertible has a correct Firestone tire, correctly-dated rally wheel, and even the correct type of wheel weights. The car is very original, so my first inclination was to say it seems to be the original spare.

The one strange thing about it, though, is that the tire is a white-stripe tire mounted with the stripe toward the inside (i.e. backwards).

Has anyone seen this before? Should I get the tire dismounted and turned around for judging? Does it matter? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Paul

P.S. - I have some photos of the car from back in '69 that the original owner provided, and it appears to have blackwall Firestone tires on it. Not sure if that is relevant, but thought I would mention it.

I would say prior owners flipped it to match the other four in case of a flat. Didn't want to be un-cool!

If your intent is to have the car judged -- I would flip it.

Even if you could make a point for this being a "factory error" (Which I doubt) it is NOT TFP (Typical Factory Production) and thus would merit a deduction. Why put up with that when the solution is so simple?

Yep, I actually was planning on having it flipped, but before I did, I figured I should check just to make sure this wasn't something that was sometimes done. I'm going to have it turned around tomorrow.

Now another question... is there a deduction if the spare tire is a different brand or type from the repro tires on the car?

when you get "the message you have entered is too short" (even when it isn't) don't change anything, and hit Go Advanced and once there, hit submit. Your post will post.

Thanks for the tip Don. That message has tripped me up a few times.

Mine was definately too short. All I wanted to say is "NO" That's too short, but it provides all the emphasis I wanted to convey.
