Re: 1967 427 Engine Stamp Question
Pictures of the stamp pad, casting number, and casting date will get your mystery solved in short order on this board. Also, I believe 3 letter sufix codes were not used before 69 or 70 and I think all big block cases and heads had Hi Perf cast in them. More knowledgeable folks here will correct me if I'm wrong. Re: 1967 427 Engine Stamp Question
Robert------First ever post:
My 67 427 Engine stamp (on the pad) is defying my research. It is T1215JAT and the engine cast number on the back of block is 3869942 with a P beside it. Also says HI PERF. I believe I can see VIN #’s on the stamp pad but they are very faint/ worn off. This engine stamp doesn’t seem to appear in the literature anywhere. Can anyone tell me what the engine stamp means or has this been seen before?
Thanks,
Bob
The only part of the engine code stamp that I do not understand is the "T" at the end of the series. The rest of it indicates an L-71 manufactured on December, 15 and installed in a Corvette. The 3869942 is the correct casting number for such an engine. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1967 427 Engine Stamp Question
942 was a 66 model year block. 351 is 67 only. the casting date of the block would be helpfulRobert------

Keith-----
I believe that the 3869942 could have been used later into 1967 model year than many folks think. There was certainly no functional reason that it could not have been used for 1967.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1967 427 Engine Stamp Question
Robert, is the VIN number stamped on the pad as I can't see it in your picture ? I believe 942 blocks were only used in 66 and early 67. Not sure what the "T" means after the "JA". Not sure if it's possible that the "T" was left in the gang stamp when it was stamped at the engine plant. The machine marks on the pad don't appear to be factory typical.

Re: 1967 427 Engine Stamp Question
The 942 blocks that were sometimes used used in early 67 cars had the 942 casting number ground off and the 351 casting number was hand stamped with distinctive characters in its place. These blocks were typically cast in May 66. The casting of real 351 blocks began at least by June 1, 1966. This block is not original to a 67 Corvette because it still bears the 942 casting number.- Top

I agree with Joe. I also think with the VIN # missing, I would question this block as ''the original''Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Love Rochester Fuel Injection 57-65 cars. Love CORVETTE RACE CARS
