      Rich,

      I read it to be a "I".

            Hi Rich,

I believe you are correct on both the assembly and build dates. I do not own this particular car but I do own another JA car with the engine assembly date of TI0I9JA (Oct 19 K19 engine). My car was produced on 5-25-67. I have the Corvette Order copy 7 which validates this information.

Thank you very much. I have heard of long time periods between engine assembly and vehicular build dates but until now never got to see a real example. The only time I had my 68 judged (July 8 Assembly and July 19 build) it was pointed out that my block cast date was in May, which the judges thought “unusual “. That was many years ago and I’ve learned through this board that it really isn’t that unusual.

Yes, there have been documented cases of time lapses exceeding the rather generous NCRS "six month rule" regarding big block engine build and build date of the car it was originally installed in. For whatever reason, Tonawanda big blocks could occasionally exceed the "6 month rule".

However, this is almost certainly not the situation of the engine that's the original subject of this post. As I mentioned previously, I could see the possibility of 1966 manufactured 3869942 block, even one that had not been re-coded as a 3904351, being installed in an earlier build 1967 Corvette. However, I expect there is virtually no chance that a 3869942 block cast in late 1965 being originally installed in a 1967 Corvette.

For the most part, you will generally find these in cars with very low production engines. Normally not in a 327-300 but more likely in L-89's, L/88's, etc
