The ignition key in my 1962 has suddenly decided it will not turn to the "lock" position. It starts and shuts off the car OK, and was working perfectly two days ago. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. I used a little WD and some muscle and finally got it to go to the lock position. Then i just wiggled it from lock to start to remove any corrosion or whatever was stopping it. You just have to let it know who's boss!- Top

Re: Ign Key won't turn to "lock" position
Well, with a little judicious use of some Lock-Ease spray graphite and some not-quite-so-judicious shake, rattle and rolling of the key in the slot, all is functioning perfectly again. Must have been something hung up in the lock cylinder that wouldn't allow the key to turn fully. Well, she turns now, by God. Thanks for the tips, hints and assistance.- Top

Re: Ign Key won't turn to "lock" position
If you happen to know the key code or want to try to get it from the door lock, you can have fresh new key made and it might work the tumblers better. A worn key sometimes will not move the tumblers as needed --- If all else fails. Even if you get it to work I recommend a NEW key cut with a Curtis cutter for daily operation. Not a duplicate key but a FRESH cut key per the code on the lock (assuming it has not been changed)Founder - Carolinas Chapter NCRS- Top
