    69 L71 leaky center carb

When I turn my car off the center carb (I assume) is dripping fuel into the engine and causing a hard start issue. Curious what circuit in the carb is this happening, and what is the usual problem? If I take out the air fuel screws and blow carb cleaner in the holes will this help? Seems that when I blow carb cleaner through the two little holes in the top of the center carb (beside the Venturi) this helps but the problem comes back. I am trying everything I can before pulling it and rebuilding it.

    Thanks

    Lawrence

Try first just basically checking your float level remove side plug and check level when running or your picking up some dirt in your fuel on your needle and seat, when was the last rebuild done on the Carbs.

I just bought the car but was told the carbs were rebuilt four years ago. The guy I bought the car from had not driven it but 300 miles in 3 years. He was not the mechanical type either. I will check the float level. Like you said may have trash in the needle and seat

If fuel drips out the main venturi discharge nozzles after shutdown, then the float level is too high or the needle/seat are not sealing properly.

Better known as HOLLEYITUS (spelling not so sure about) Rebuild the carb should fix it. Could try a new needle and seat but it is best to do it all and save problems later.

Are you determining that the carb is leaking down in that prior to cranking the engine over - when you pump the accelerator - nothing from the accel pump nozzels - indicating a dry fuel bowl?

Just running through prior Holley problems.

BTW - Oreilly's carries Holley gaskets and accel pumps manufactured by Edelbrock which are black - NOT BLUE and GREEN.

No James, it is slightly flooded after sitting for awhile. I can look down the carb and see slight amounts of white smoke/steam which I believe indicates gas dripping into the engine. I believe the needle and seat has trash in it.

                Lawrance,

Make sure the heat riser is working properly, so you know the fuel is not percolating fuel.

Try turning the float hex nut adjustment clockwise four flats and see if the problem goes away, you can do this without the engine running.
