Re: Work Order 19064
Loren, Did you ever get a response to this thread? Do not have but did run across reverences to WO 19061 -- L 43618. Has to do with 3 spd trans shifter bosses for #5951. Are you looking for anything in particular?? D- Top

Re: Work Order 19064
David, I had an "indicator" (read as WAG") that 19064 might be a reference as to when Eng. # 5951 received an "updated" 3 spd. Wanted to see if the date could be interpreted as a date after which 3 spds would have been available. In another thread, I had mentioned that '55 1654 (Sebring #5 or 6) had been ordered as a 3 spd and was chastised by another member of the "Only The Last 25 '55s Could Be 3 spds Club".- Top

Re: Work Order 19064
The log book had that info, many notes with ZAD initials. I just wish I had photocopied it when it was in my office.
The NCRS library collection in Hershey should have a copy. When I had the log book I called John Amgwert to tell him about it. He told me to hold on for a minute. I read him something out of the book and he would read me the next line/page.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Work Order 19064
Dick,
VERY familiar with 5951's log book. I may have been the one that first gave John the info. Still have the original November 30, 1954 page authorizing the WO to take 5951 and 6001 to the Desert Proving Grounds. Unfortunately there are other pages that have been altered by adding a hand written vin# at the top. This has caused a lot of misinformation, ei: fake claims!- Top

Re: Work Order 19064
Agree, Mr Hawkins did handle sale of the two Bill France Nascar Corvettes: 53 #211 & 55 #399. However, he did NOT sell GM Engineering car 5951/EX-87. This car is significant as the first V-8 Corvette as well as the first 3 spd. equipped (WO 19061-2, L-43618). It racked up over 10,000 miles on the streets of Detroit (Tom Parson's favorite city) testing these options before going on to Phoenix for high speed tests. GM rebuilt this car numerous times and continued to use it into 1956 when it was used to help develop the HD brake & suspension option. If the log book with some of this information had stayed with #5951, a lot of false claims could have been prevented.- Top

Re: Work Order 19064
Those 10,000 miles in Detroit continue to confound the owners today. They are reluctant to lift the body to seek a "second" stamping of the partial VIN, even after cutting through the body in a recommended location for the stamping - the result was a visible "3" as I recall, but the overall surface would make you believe that the 10K were all in Jan-Mar. IIRC, the earliest WO I have with Eng. #5951 is in May '54 where it is being used with Eng. #5950 to evaluate brake line locations.- Top
